Scientific programm: Abstract

2nd scientific session: (Core) PPV

14. Next Generation Vitrectomy Systems

Peter K. Kaiser (Cleveland)

Current vitrectomy systems such as the Accurus (Alcon, Ft Worth, TX) and Millennium (Bausch and Lomb, Rochester, NY) offer cut rates up to 2500 cpm, dual-linear or 3D pedals, dual pump options, integrated air pumps, infusion control via either automated IV pole control or VGFI, modular designs, and integrated fragmatomes. The next generation vitrectomy systems including the Constellation (Alcon, Ft Worth, TX) improve on all these features and enhance efficiency and safety while we perform vitrectomies. The NGVS will offer ultra-high speed cut rates with advancements in the way the cutter cuts. This will offer surgeons exquisite control over flow rates by allowing us to vary cut speed, duty cycle, and vacuum. IOP control will prevent fluctuations in IOP while performing surgery. Improved lighting technologies will offer safer and brighter lighting. Finally, enhancements in the device itself will improve OR efficiencies. The new features of the NGVS will be highlighted in this talk.

Financial Disclosure: Dr Kaiser is a consultant for Alcon, and serves on the scientific advisory boards of Alcon and Bausch and Lomb.
