Sehr geehrte Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

das 10. Vitreoretinale „Jubiläums-Symposium“ wird in Frankfurt am Main stattfinden. „Ein neues Gesicht der VitreoRetinal-Chirurgie“ will mit Hilfe angesehener Experten herausarbeiten, in welchem Umfang in nur kurzer Zeit Entwicklungen auf diesem Gebiet unser diagnostisches Denken ebenso wie das therapeutische Handeln maßgeblich verändert haben und in Zukunft werden. Pharmakologische Konzepte haben hierbei eine Frontstellung eingenommen – scheinbar für jedermann (Patienten) geeignet und scheinbar von jedermann (Ärzte) verwirklichbar.
Laserkoagulationsindikationen z. B. werden minimiert oder gar völlig verbannt – die „Spritze“ in das oder neben das Auge wird zur scheinbaren Selbstverständlichkeit. Ist dieses aktuelle Denken und Vorgehen gerechtfertigt und wenn, in welchem Umfang? Bleibt noch Platz für invasiveres, teils heroische Vorgehen, z. B. endoskopische
Pigmentepithelkoagulation oder Makula Rotation oder Gewebetransplantation und wenn, wo? Experten zu herkömmlichen, derzeitigen und zukünftigen Vorgehensweisen werden versuchen, den richtigen Weg zu weisen. Altes und Neues wird in einem ausgebauten Dry-Lab-Setup geübt: 31. Mai 2007: Simulator– Kunstaugen – Maschinen, Phako – PPV – core PPV – Injektionen, technische Herausforderungen bis hin zu Komplikationen vorgestellt und interaktiv diskutiert: 1. Juni 2007, vormittags. Teilen Sie mit uns Ihre eigenen Herausforderungen! Bringen Sie diese auf DVD mit! Alles wird am 1. und 2. Juni 2007 aufgearbeitet
und diskutiert, hierzu greifen wir auf angesehene Experten zurück.
Am Ende des Symposiums sind wir zertifiziert für eine „VitreoRetinal-Chirurgie im neuen Gewand“.

The 10th “anniversary” VitreoRetinal Symposium will be held in Frankfurt/Main.
With the help of distinguished experts, “VitreoRetinal surgery – a new face” wants to enlighten to what extends in just a short time our diagnostic thinking as well as our therapeutic acting did change considerably and will keep on changing in future.
Pharmacologic concepts have gained a front position – apparently everybody (the patient) seems to take profit of drugs in the eye and everybody (physician) seems to be able to apply drugs into the patients eye. Laser coagulation indications e.g. are minimized or even banished, an injection into the eye or next to it becomes the method of 1st choice. Is the current thinking and strategy justified and if so, to what extent?
Is there still a place for more invasive if not heroic “big surgery” as pigment
epithelial endoscopic laser coagulation, macular rotation or tissue transplantation?
Experts in the field of conventional, present and future vitreoretinal strategies
will try to answer these questions. Conventional and modern surgical techniques will be trained in the updated Dry Lab Setup: May 31, 2007 – Vrmagic Simulator – practice eyes – vitrectomy/phaco machines – PPV – core PPV – injections. Technical challenges and/or complications will be presented and interactively discussed: Bring your own cases on DVD:
1st June 2007 in the morning. Everything will be summarized and discussed starting from noon, 1st June 2007 until the evening of 2nd June 2007. Count on our experts for the exclusive paper sessions. At the end of the VRsymposium all of us will be certified for the “VitreoRetinal surgery – a new face”.
