30. The many faces of triamcinolone

Giampaolo Gini (Prato)

Powerful, effective, yet somewhat controversial, Triamcinolone has found its way in everyday
clinical use.
The paper aims first at reviewing the applications of the drug as an anti-inflammatory agent and the possible complications deriving from its use both as described in the Literature as well as from the Author’s personal experience. Treatment options for the management of complications and the results obtained are also discussed. Triamcinolone granules bind to collagen fibrils, this property has also led to its use in surgical procedures. The pros and cons of using this particular staining method are illustrated. The conclusions drawn from this extensive review are that the drug is, at present, an important tool in our medical and surgical armamentarium. While both the therapeutic and the side effects are time related, the former seem to outweight the latter.
