27. A prospective non randomized trial with one year follow
up comparing Avastin to Lucentis for exudative AMD

Method: 23 eyes were treated with Lucentis and 20 were treated with Avastin. All were treated
with the SAILOR protocol (three monthly injections then PRN based upon visual acuity or
OCT findings.
Results: There was no significant difference between the two drugs comparing retinal/choroidal vascular changes, visual acuity, or injection frequency. There was no trend between
patients regarding when injections are needed.
Conclusion: The two drugs appear to have similar effects. No prediction can be made regarding
re-injection frequency or timing.
