Abstract Vitreoretinal Symposium Frankfurt / Marburg 2003
7th session: DDD

DDD in uveitis from a patient’s point of view

Christian Frankenberg (Clinic of Anesthesiology, Intensive Care and Pain Treatment, University
Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum, Ruhr University of Bochum, Germany (Director: Prof. Dr. M. Zenz)

The patient, a 43-year-old anesthesiologist, suffered seven years from chronic uveitis anterior and intermedia.
Despite a basic treatment with local and systemic steroids and local ciclosporin A the uveitis reoccured frequently. Caused by the uveitis and the treatment the patient developed several complications such as secondary glaucoma, chronic trabeculitis, posterior synechia, ptosis and severe systemic side effects of the systemic steroids.
In November 2002 it was possible in a clinical trail to implant a fluocinolon delivery device.
It is intended to present subjective and objective parameters prior and after the implantation of the DDD.
Moreover, there will be a further focus on showing how far it was possible to reintegrate the patient in his job thanks to the DDD and to show potential remaining / new problems.
