Abstract Vitreoretinal Symposium Frankfurt / Marburg 2003
6th session: OCT

Macular Evaluation in Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada’s Syndrome (VKH) by Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Michel Eid Farah (Sao Paulo)

Purpose: To evaluate macular abnormalities in VKH by OCT.
Methods: Thirty patients (90% female) had their macular anatomic status evaluated by OCT.
Results: OCT findings comprised focal atrophic areas (30 %), serous retinal detachment (36,6%), choroidal neovascularization (5,0%), subretinal fibrosis (6,6 %), cystoid macular edema (3,3%), as well as choroidal thickening fluid accumulation (36,6 %).
Conclusion: OCT was useful to demonstrate additional morphological findings and persistent macular alterations in spite of a favorable visual acuity outcome. Cross-sectional OCT images may increase understanding of the pathophysiology of VKH and better disease monitoring might be achieved with such diagnostic tool.
