5th session:
STRATEGIES AND INSTRUMENTATION
WORKING UNDER PERFLUOROCARBON LIQUIDS IN PROLIFERATIVE
VITREORETINOPATHY
Carlos Mateo (Barcelona)
Proliferative Vitreoretinopathy is a devastating complication that happens
in some cases after a regmatogenous retinal detachment. PFCl. were described
initially for the handling of the retinal detachment secondary to a giant
break. Later on many papers have emphasized the importance of using these
compounds in vitreoretinal surgery.
We are going to show you the advantages of working under PFCl in eyes
affected of PVR like the stabilisation of the retina, the opening of the
tunnel and better visualisation of the epiretinal membranes as well as
the difficulties and the cautions that should be kept in mind.
